How to find the right USB Converter?

I want to buy my friend a webcam as a gift, but given she has an older mac, the only webcam I know of that would possibly work for OS 10.4 is the Xbox Live Webcam. But again, it’s an older mac that they updated the OS on so I don’t know if they have USB2 for the webcam, what kind of cable would I have to buy to convert the USB2 so it can be plugged into a normal USB port?
Don’t get a usb webcam for an older mac! Find a firewire webcam , like the old apple iSight. (ebay) Just about any firewire webcam should work.
