On usb wifi ethernet adapters, will longer usb length cause lag?
March 1st, 2009 | by Joe |I have 6 computers in my house networked on a wifi router. 1HTPC, 2 laptop, 3 desktop. I am getting a lower signal quality and bandwith from two of the pc in my house. I installed a high gain antenna for my linksys router. It helped but you can only do so much going through closed doors and walls.
I was thinking of getting two usb 802.11g adapter, connect through a 10' usb cable extension and attaching them on the outer door jam of these rooms to increase the signal. They would have direct line of site with the router only about 20 feet away.
Would there be any lag issues with a usb cable this long?
(moving the router close is not feasible. The other alternative would be to buy antennas with extension cable for my pci cards, but I am thinking they would lose consierable reception over this distancem, and that I am better off moving the "whole" device closer.
no it wouldnt, because at the speed this stuff work, 20 feet is nothing.

I would think that the length of the cord wouldn’t matter.
