Convert VHS tapes to USB

August 21st, 2008 | by Joe |

An all in one unit by Ion Audio called VCR2PC will quite easily capture the video off  of VHS tapes into digital form up to full resolution. It is windows compatible but also will work on the mac through iMovie.  This leads me to believe that it might also work under linux.

It’s very much a VHS player equipped with a USB video capture.  There is a composite connection adjacent to the type B USB connector on the front for camcorders.  There are two versions of this device, a NTSC and a PAL version. The PAL version has a SCART output like most UK video equipment.

For the PC there is a EZ VHS Converter software that apparently transcodes the  imported video file into a mpeg 2 or mp4 format suitable for DVD’s or iPods. Price is about $200.

I just picked this up at Bed, Bath & Beyond for $100.00 I have been playing with it all day and this thing is so easy to work with. It is like working with Windows Media Center. Simple, Easy and super fast to set up.
