Can I share internet connection between my pc and my notebook using 2 wireless USB network adapters?

WITHOUT A ROUTER OR ACCESS POINT…
Can these two different computers share an internet connection if they both have wireless network adapters on Ad Hoc mode?

If so I will get a usb wireless network adapter for my PC ($20) and try to establish a network between my pc and notebook. Then it will be nice for me to check my emails in another room.

I heard that Ad Hoc mode works fine for this purpose.

Is it a good idea? It seems a cheap solution for me.
What are cons? Or should I pay $150 more to buy access points or a new wireless modem and throw away my old modem?
Currently I have
1 PC
1 Notebook
1 adsl internet connection (standart, line)
1 USB wireless network adapter for my notebook (that could also be plugged on PC)

you dont need a new modem. if you can use wireless connecsion just share that whit your notebook
it will work nice. i did it before.
