This is an interesting diy video that you might find interesting. I have a headset, and the microphone will not work when it’s plugged into any ordinary microphone input. It’s not a case of the plug being the wrong size or type, the microphone is an electret condenser microphone, so it needs to be powered. I made an adaptor cable, the microphone plugs into one end, the other end goes to the tape recorder (or whatever) and it has a 9v battery connection for powering the mic.

When its plugged straight into a computer, the computer provides power for the mic and this is what the headset was designed for, but I intend to use it with other stuff too. It’s also why I chose NOT to get a USB one.

A cheap & effective way to transform your favorite pair of audiophile grade headphones into a full blown headset for voice communication. Benifits include having a much larger selection of headphones than headsets. A general rule of thumb is headphones have higher sound quality and also cost less within the same range of quality. Being modular you can remove the microphone when not needed and since just velcro was used the headphones can be restored 100% to there original form. Donor headset was a Altec Lansing AHS433usb – there is a cheaper version of the same product without the usb soundcard but I think the .00 more easily is worth it to have that usb option, and you can use that usb adapter with other microphones and headphones for another project if needed.

Unboxing style Quick Overview Review and Testing how well it works in Linux for a new professional Samson G-Track USB Studio Condenser Mic with Audio Mixing Interface. I bought this from a Retail Shop in Melbourne for 5 AUD. The device works extremely well producing high quality audio depth in Ubuntu Linux from my testing and also sounds much better than previous USB microphones used on the OSGUI Channel in the past.
