How to fix the Acer Aspire One black screen problem – flash the BIOS www.LowEndGuru.com This video tutorial shows you how to fix the “black screen of death” problem of the Acer Aspire One netbook. This is a very common problem with this netbook since it was released to the market with a defective BIOS software that can eventually fail and needs to be upgraded. This problem is so common, that the manufacturer decided to post the solution on the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) of his site. Notice that the instructions in the official FAQ tells you to download the version 3309 of the BIOS, this will fix the problem, but I got the black screen again a couple of months after fixing it.

My recommendation (as can be seen in the video) is to go get the latest BIOS version for your particular model of Acer Aspire One. These are the instructions according to ACER “Create a recovery USB drive to update the Bios on the unit. The specific steps to perform this recovery with the USB drive are: 1. Download & Extract AS1_BIOS_3309.zip (found in support.acer.com 2. Rename the Bios name from 3309.fd to zg5ia32.fd. 3. Copy zg5ia32.fd and Flashit.exe to USB flash drive. 4. Start the restoration process: A. Plug the AC Adapter into the unit. B. Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port. C. Press and Hold down the Fn and the Esc keys together. D. Keep these keys held down and press power. E. When the unit’s power light comes on release the Fn and Esc keys. F.

I’ve tried ebay and google and Maplins etc they all do a converter that lets you plug a serial device into a usb port but my old laptop only has a serial port no usb at all. I want to plug my camera into it but that is usb I bought a usb cardbus but its type II and wont fit (laptop must be type stone-age )
anyone got a link to a serial to USB adapter or a better idea apart from burn the laptop and turn it into modern art

Confuzzled you have fallen into the trap all those links are to connect a serial device to a usb port i want to go the other way and connect a usb device to a serial port thanks anyway

Looking around I don’t actually think you can go from Serial to USB. The main problem you will have is that there won’t be any drivers to read the serial port to setup the camera even if you could connect it.

If it’s an old PC you probably have a Type I PCMCIA slot (3.3mm) the Type II is 5mm and all the SD card readers are Type II. So I would go with the burning option or get a friend to pop the images onto a CD for you.

I have a laptop connected to an Ethernet port that has a network with internet.

The laptop is producing a wireless signal so others can connect to it through WiFi.

I have 2 other adapters that connect through USB,
can I use them to increase my wireless signal? and have my laptop, and 2 of them producing and making the wireless signal bigger?

thanks in advance

Your wireless USB adapters and the wireless adapter built into your laptop aren't going to be able to load balance for a faster wireless connection. Potentially you could configure 3 different wireless devices to all broadcast on different channels say 1, 6 and 11 which would not over lap and would allow for faster communication but may or may not provide more coverage in terms of area. But to make that work would involve some pretty complex configuration.

You may find that one of the USB adapters can provide a stronger signal than the built in wireless card in your laptop which may allow you to provide more coverage and a faster wireless connection. The only way to verify this would be to disable the built in wireless card in your laptop and try the USB adapters you have. When it comes to wireless, there's never any guarantees.
