Not all serial devices will work through a serial to USB adapter, so I suspect you’re out of luck.

USB or PCI modems are relatively cheap – I’d suggest just picking up a new modem.

Hi Pal, do the following,i believe it will work.go to your system device manager and see if the device in working properly or if it has a yellow question mark, follow the troubleshooting process to see the problem and the possible panacea.if it doesnt work,call the modem manufacturer to send u their own cable if their product is customized and the possible solution. kingsley attai

Are you getting any error messages?

First thing to check – go to Control Panel and Select, then PHone and Modem Options, then lcick on the Modems tab. Is the modem shown here? If so make a note of the serial port number if refers to.

Also check here – from Control Panel, select System, then click on the Hardware tab, then click on Device Manager. If there is an entry for "modem" clcik the + sign beside it. If there is no entry for modem, the software hasn;t detected the device.

If there is a question mark in a yellow circle then the modem has been detected but not correctly installed. Right click on the modem, select Properties and then troubleshoot.

If there is a red cross then the modem has been detected but disabled. Right click on the modem, select Properties and then make sure "Use this device (enable)" is selected in the drop down list at the bottom.

External Serial port Modems requrire a serial port to work correctly.

Don't bother yourself. If you don't have fax modem installed, you can buy USB adapter of a branded company and can use. But it may be expensive. Don't buy through Ebay. Go to your nearest store to find out.
